چکیده

Separating the diffuse and specular components from the reflection of a 3D object surface is very important for generating highly realistic synthesized images in computer graphics applications. Most research on this separation has considered only the case in which an object is illuminated by a single point light source. However, when an object is illuminated by one source, it can be difficult or impossible to acquire the real texture information of some visible regions on the object surface because of shading. To overcome this problem, we used two point light sources to illuminate the object to reduce the shaded regions. We used an iterative algorithm to estimate the intensity variation curve parameters and to compute the separation of the two components. To improve the separation quality, we used a weighting function to reduce the effect of noise contained in the highlight regions. Experiments using both synthesized and real data demonstrated that our method is effective and produces clear separation.

Numerical Investigation of Birefringene Effect on the Light Reflection

In the present paper, the problem of light reflection from a birefringent medium and thin film is considered. First, the analytical equations governing the propagation of a plane and harmonic electromagnetic wave in an infinite, birefringent, linear, non-dispersive, non-absorbing, and non-magnetic medium is derived from Maxwell equations. Then, using phase matching condition and boundary condit...

Extracting Shape and Reflectance of Lambertian, Specular, and Hybrid Surfaces

All existing shape extraction techniques that are based on photometric measurements rely on assumed surface reflection properties. We propose a method for determining the shape of surfaces whose reflectance properties may vary from Lambertian to specular without prior knowledge of the relative strengths of the Lambertian and specular components of reflection. The object surface is illuminated u...

Study of the Effect of Palladium (Pd) and Hydroxy Optidium (Hap) on the Structural and Photocatalytic Properties of Bismuth Tungstate Nanoparticles (Bi2WO6)

In this investigation, bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6) nanoparticles were synthesized by the hydrothermal method, and its surface modification was performed to increase photocatalytic property by palladium (Pd) and hydroxyapatite (Hap). The Pd / Bi2WO6 / Hap sample consists of two active components in visible light (Pd, Bi2WO6) and a hydroxyapatite adsorbent (Hap). The Pd / Bi₂WO6 / Hap sample activ...

A Time-Domain Method for Shape Reconstruction of a Target with Known Electrical Properties (RESEARCH NOTE)

This paper uses a method for shape reconstruction of a 2-D homogeneous object with arbitrary geometry and known electrical properties. In this method, the object is illuminated by a Gaussian pulse, modulated with sinusoidal carrier plane wave and the time domains’ footprint signal due to object presence is used for the shape reconstruction. A nonlinear feedback loop is used to minimize the diff...

Transmission and Reflection Characteristics of a Concrete Block Wall Illuminated by a TM-polarized Obliquely incident wave

Typically, many of the modern buildings have concrete walls constructed from cinder block walls, that have periodic nature in their relative dielectric constant. This periodic nature excites higher-order Floquet harmonic modes at microwave frequencies, which leads to the propagation of scattered waves along with non-specular directions. Periodic structures exhibit different behaviors when illum...
